and counting until the presidential debate tonight. mitt romney, he is gaining in two swing states. could this be romney's springboard? romney has whittled the president's lead, take a look. he's whittled the president's lead in the two percentage points in virginia. this is according to a poll released today by marist college, the wall street journal and also nbc news. two-point lead for obama, that's down five points last month. keep in mind we're talking virginia, that's 13 electoral votes there. and check it out, similar story for you in florida. 29 electoral votes there. now, a one-point, one-point lead for obama, down from four points in september. we should mention here that poll shows the president still with the seven-point lead in ohio. we can't forget about ohio. but speaking nationwide here, the president's lead, in our cnn poll of polls, you can see it here, stands at 3 percentage points, unchanged. as we noticed today, kind of interesting, the president has gained one point and romney dropped one point. this is the gallup national tracking poll. obama with a six-point lead t

, colorado. the first presidential debate one day away. this is the romney pre-game show. will mitt romney be held accountable for lies and distortions about president obama's record? we got a sneak preview of what happens when mitt romney is forced to tell the truth. a fox affiliate here in denver asked romney to explain what paul ryan could not, how he plans to pay for $5 trillion tax cut by only eliminating deductions. >> there's an option. you could say everybody is going to get up to a deduction and you could use your home mortgage deduction or others, health care deduction and fill that bucket, if you will, the $17,000 bucket that way and higher income people might have a lower number. >> at least the plan has a name. it's the bucket plan. mitt romney will cap deductions at $17,000 for all americans. is that good for the middle class? do the math. for rich americans, the cap, it just might be lower than that. he was very vague on that point as well. the big problem with romney's bucket plan besides being hilarious is it would only cover $1 to $2 trillion of the $5 trillion tax cut. t

this is very confusing. is the romney campaign betting they can get through by just confusing the american public into submission? >> alex, if i were the kind of person who got depressed by a lack of specificity and seriousness in presidential politics i would be very depressed. this cycle you can judge? in different ways. the lack of specificity is ghouling for three reasons, two serious guys, two, the country has big challenges and three both campaigns are enunciated this principle on big important serious things, rather than have the candidate be specific at all about what they do, they say really it's better for the public to have this the rashed out with congress after i'm elected. the president says the same thing about social security reform. i find it unorthodox and maybe i need to cover a few more to cover the romney campaign, a major float of a proposal in a local television interview the day or two before the debate. seems like the $17,000 cap -- >> bucket. >> is actually, i think, an interesting idea, but it's not one that governor romney is apparently actually proposing and no

of the very first debate between president obama and governor mitt romney. fox news alert for you right now. this a news conference underway concerning breaking news in the presidential race. a pennsylvania judge decide tog puing to put a voter i.d. law on hold. this is a ruling that has upset conservatives already. some are calling it a victory for voter shaun. eric shawn is live with here. >> reporter: they are calling this decision a big win, the aclu. at pennsylvania when you show up at the polls in november you will be asked, or you could be asked to show your voter i.d., but understand this new ruling you don't have to show it. both sides indeed calling this a victory. it comes from commonwealth judge robert simpson. he backed the law originally and let voter i.d. stay but it's not enforced in order to vote. he blocked part of the law that requires people without an i.d. to vote by provisional ballot if they provide documentation within six days. he feared that could diseven franchise voters if people couldn't come up with the proof. he's also concerned about the distribution of id's
